Welcome to our Open House for Kindergarten/First Grade! The purpose of back to school night is for parents and teachers to become better acquainted, and to provide an opportunity to explain my program. Thank you for coming to see what your child has been doing for the past 4 days. Please feel free to look around. Have your child show you their projects and make sure you look at our pictures on the smart board. I have also listed some important dates as well as some more information below. Thank you for coming!
Important Dates: October 8th- NO School Columbus Day October 26th- 1/2 day Superintendents Conference Contacting Me: Just a reminder that I can be contacted at 828-9493. I can also be reached at my school e-mail is [email protected]. I check this email in the evenings and on the weekends. You may also use the agenda book to communicate. In addition a folder will come home with your child daily. Please check it and return/remove any papers. Also it is important to check backpacks daily so that they do not get cluttered. I will answer you very quickly typically the day I receive your phone call, note or email. I firmly believe that communication is important.
Class Expectations: BE SAFE, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE RESPECTFUL!!! -WE WILL LEARN!! -LET OTHERS LEARN! - BE SAFE! -BE RESPECTFUL WITH OUR WORDS AND ACTIONS! - BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR ACTIONS AND WORDS! These are the school as well as classroom expectations. Our school is using PBIS (POSTIVE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION SUPPORTS) The children will be able to earn L'll Hawk awards for making good choices and doing the right thing. This is a system used throughout school and includes the playground, hallways, cafeteria and hallways.
Homework: Will begin on October 1st. Homework will come home on Monday and will be due on Friday. I will also be sending books for your child to read at least 3 days a week. The books will come home in a bag and should be returned the next day unless otherwise noted. Some books the children may keep at home. I will let you know when they are your child's to keep.
Attendance: If your child is absent from school, please remember to send a note the next day explaining the reason for their absence.
Snack: We have snack everyday just before we go home. Please send in snack. Should you forget I always have extra.
Supplies: Thank you for all of the supplies you sent it. We are always in need of paper towels, white paper plates, cups, snack donations ( animal crackers, goldfish, pretzels) white and brown lunch bags and glue sticks. We always need glue sticks. So if you see a sale on these items think of us!
Journeys: This is our new reading program. We are in our 3rd year of the program. It is a balanced literacy approach to reading an writing instruction.
Envisions: This is our new math program. This is our 2nd year of the program. I love it and I think your children will too!
Common Core: Please see attached paper that was taken from engageny.com. It gives an overview of the common core. I have also attached the common core standards for Kindergarten. These will be what I will be using to assist me in teaching your child. If you have any further questions with common core let me know.
Website: I will have a website where you can access information. It can be accessed by going to the district website and going to John L Edwards Primary and clicking on directory. Scroll down until you see my picture and then click on it. My page will then come up. It is my intention to update in on a regular basis.
Sharing: I have attached another sharing schedule. The children each have a day to share. Then can bring in toys to share. Please just make sure they are appropriate.
Volunteers: If you would like to volunteer please let me know. We will have centers with Mrs. Peduzzi's class around holiday time. This is a good time to volunteer.
Special Schedule: A special schedule is on my web page. Remember sneakers are needed for PE. Our special teachers are PE: Ms Ann Button,Music: Mrs. Patricia Almstead, Library: Mrs. Anne Skoda, Art: Mr. Phillip Gebhardt.

8:00-8:45- Children Arrive, Have breakfast, Journal, Morning Work. 8:45-9:15-Morning Meeting with Mrs. Peduzzi's Class( Friday Music 8:40-9:10) 9:15-11:00 Brain Gym, Literacy, Guided Reading , Centers 11:15-11:55 Lunch/Recess 12-12:30 Specials (Most Days) 12:30-1:30 Math 1:30- Free Time 1:40 Snack 2:00 Pack up get ready for home This is just a general schedule. Someday differ and the schedule may change depending on other activities.
Therapies: I have also given you your child's therapy schedule. This is for speech, occupational therapy, counseling, or physical therapy. Should you have questions about these services let me know. The frequency and duration of these therapies are on your child's current IEP.
Breakfast: We have breakfast in our room every day. I like to do this rather than the cafeteria because it starts our day out in a quiet way. Staff can sit down and talk with the children and it is less chaotic.
Friday Letter Journals: There is a note attached to the web page explaining this!
Miscellaneous: Please label all lunchboxes, backpacks, coats, and other things your child may bring to school. This help in returning lost things to the correct child. Progress reports and report cards will be sent home 4 times a year(November, February, April and June) This will give you an opportunity to review your child's progress and help your child master the kindergarten standards. Remember to check the newsletter each Friday to see what concepts we are working on and important events.
